Traffic info FAQ

We have collected the most frequently asked questions about traffic during Copenhagen Sprint here, so you can hopefully find answers to what you are looking for.

Can you drive a car on the route during the bike race?

No. The route is closed to traffic during the bike race due to safety.

The closing time depends on where on the route you want to drive. See the specific times under traffic info on this page.

Fire and rescue vehicles will of course always have access via planned and maintained rescue routes.

I live outside Copenhagen and am going to hold an event. What do I do?

Your guests should know that the cycle route is closed to all car traffic for approx. 30-60 minutes. They can find out about the route and times for the closure in the individual municipalities on this page under the tab traffic info.

We encourage you to find alternative routes and leave well in advance.

All highways are open as usual.

I live in Copenhagen and will be holding an event this weekend. What do I do?

The Copenhagen Sprint route in Copenhagen is closed to car traffic from Saturday. 13/6 at 06:00 – Sunday 14/6 at 22:00.
Pay extra attention to the finish area, where it is already blocked from Friday 12/6 at 12.00.

There are seven car locks that can be used to cross the route – the locks are closed on Saturday 13 June from 13 to 17:30 and on Sunday 14 June from 10 am to 4:30 pm.
Expect extra driving time if you drive close to the route.

We encourage you to walk, cycle or take the metro and S-train.

Your guests can see the lockdown in Copenhagen here: https://copenhagensprint.com/trafikinfokoebenhavn/

Is it possible to park on the route?

No. The entire route must be free of cars, and the ban applies to both stopping and parking. This ban is enforced by the police, and illegally parked cars will be removed.

We encourage you to find out before the race about where you can park or, if possible, leave the car at home.

In Copenhagen on the circuit, there is a ban on stopping and parking from Friday 12 June at 12:00 to Sunday 14 June at 20:00. There are a few bans that come into force earlier (keep an eye out for signs on the street).

Where should we park our car when there is a parking ban?

Outside of Copenhagen, you have to find a place that is not part of the route.

In Copenhagen, parking becomes very difficult during the Copenhagen Sprint. It is a big event, and many parking spaces will be included – especially in the inner city, in Nørrebro and Østerbro.
We encourage you to park outside the city center during the event. Unfortunately, we cannot assign alternative parking spaces. However, residents with a permanent disabled parking space will be able to be assigned a replacement space.

If you have a resident’s license in a zone where the bike race runs through, you can park for free in the city’s other license zones this weekend.

See map of license zones on the municipality’s website; Here you can park with your resident license | Municipality of Copenhagen

How much is blocked off in Copenhagen?

The 11 km circuit in Copenhagen is blocked from Saturday. d. 13/6 at 06.00 – Sunday 24/6 at 20.00. There are seven car locks that can be used to cross the route by car – the locks are closed on Saturday 13 June from 13:00 to 17:30 and Sunday 14 June from 10:00 to 16:30.

The finish area on Sølvgade will be closed to stopping, parking and through car traffic from Friday 12/6 at 12.00 to Sunday 14/6 at 22.00.
The traffic locks can be found under traffic info for Copenhagen: https://copenhagensprint.com/trafikinfokoebenhavn/

How will bicycle traffic in Copenhagen be affected?

You will be able to cycle around Copenhagen, but both Saturday and Sunday, the area around the circuit will be difficult to access by bike due to spectators.

From Saturday morning at 06:00 to Sunday evening at 20:00, you cannot cycle on the circuit, but you will be able to cross it by pulling your bike through a pedestrian crossing – however, it will be difficult to cross during the actual cycling race, as cyclists, support cars and motorcycles will pass by at very short intervals.

Cyclists can advantageously cycle along the Lakes (through the viaducts).

Extra space has been made for bicycle parking at Oslo Plads.

Can I use public transport?

Yes, especially the Metro and S-train are an obvious choice during Copenhagen Sprint. They are running as normal and even at increased capacity.
Buses are not such a good idea, as some bus departures will be cancelled and other bus routes will be rescheduled. You can orient yourself on dinoffentligetransport.dk or on rejseplanen.dk.

You can buy an event ticket for public transport – here one adult can bring two children under the age of 12 for free, and the ticket is valid for 12 hours. You can buy the event ticket here or in the “DOT Tickets” app. Please note that the event ticket covers the Capital Region of Denmark and thus not the starting city of Roskilde.
